What does the Winston Churchill New Zealand China Friendship Society Fellowship offer?

In partnership with the New Zealand China Friendship Society, the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust offers a specialised fellowship for travel to China to:

  • gain knowledge, understanding and experience of Chinese culture and values and
  • share New Zealand culture and values in China,

for the benefit of an occupation, trade or profession, or to benefit New Zealand through the creation or deepening of New Zealand-China relations.

What does the Winston Churchill New Zealand China Friendship Society Fellowship fund?

Fellowship requests must be for:

  • applicants actively involved in an occupation, activities or field of interest which will benefit from fostering relationships and building knowledge and understanding of China New Zealand relations
  • proposals that will enhance an applicant’s understanding and competence in their occupation, activities or field of interest and which will build friendships and understanding of New Zealand-China relations
  • travel between 1 January and 31 December in the year following when the fellowship request is made
  • short-term travel to China, for up to three months.

What do I need to include in my request for a Winston Churchill New Zealand China Friendship Society Fellowship?

Fellowship requests are made online and the following supporting documents must be included with your request:

  • a proposed itinerary, including dates and the activities you plan to undertake for your fellowship project
  • a description of how your proposed fellowship project will benefit New Zealand-China relations and enhance your life and work
  • a description of how you will share your fellowship experience and the knowledge gained with others
  • a budget showing proposed travel, accommodation and daily expenses, as well as contributions from other sources
  • your curriculum vitae
  • reports from two referees commenting on your ability to successfully achieve your fellowship plans and on how your fellowship proposal will benefit you, your work and New Zealand.
