Marae planning and funding seminars

The Wairoa Fire Station was filled with song and dance as guests enjoyed a lunch break during the Marae Funding and Planning Seminar coordinated by our staff

In March 2010 our advisors from Wellington, Gisborne and Napier conducted a series of multi-agency seminars for marae trustees across the wider Hawkes Bay and Tararua regions. 

Te Puni Kokiri and the NZ Fire Service promoted the events which attracted over 140 people.  Marae trustees were invited to attend one of three events at Wairoa, Hastings and Dannevirke, and more than 60% of people that attended the full-day event identified as current trustees for their marae. 

Attendees were put in touch with a host of products and services from local and central government agencies that included messages from:

  • Inland Revenue Department - tax compliance
  • Te Puni Kokiri - marae development
  • Ministry of Health - safe drinking water
  • Maori Land Court - regulatory requirements of a Trustee
  • Historic Places Trust - marae conservation
  • NZ Fire Service - fire safety
  • Civil Defence - preparedness
  • Maori Wardens - promotion of the service and recruitment drive
  • Local Government - local body elections, marae development funds and rates rebates
