Making an application

Download the application form below to your computer; fill in the form electronically and save the edited version to your computer.  Then print out and sign.

The application forms can also be printed out and handwritten.

To request an application form to be posted to you please telephone the Department of Internal Affairs on 0800 824 824 or email trusts@dia.govt.nz.

The applicant and the Support Person should provide as much detail as possible about the applicant, their financial situation and/or the hardship.  The Trustees will not be able to make an informed decision without this information. 

The Trustees may defer a decision on an application if insufficient information is provided and request the applicant to provide additional information.

When to apply

Applications are accepted all year round. Applications will be considered by the Trustees at the meeting following receipt. 

The Trustees meet up to four times a year to consider applications. Currently meetings are held in  

  • March
  • June
  • September
  • November

Registration with VANZ

The Trust strongly encourages all Viet Nam Veterans and their family members to register with Veterans Affairs New Zealand (VANZ).

As well as helping the individual Viet Nam Veteran, this will also benefit the community of Viet Nam Veterans as a whole. Registration forms for Veterans, their wives/partners, children and grandchildren (whether living or deceased) can be obtained from VANZ on 0800 4838372 or www.veteransaffairs.mil.nz

Accountability requirements

Applicants who receive grants from the Viet Nam Veterans and their Families Trust are expected to use Trust funding received according to their grant notification letter.

Public meeting

The Trust is required to hold a public meeting once every calendar year.  The Trustees present their annual report and statement of investment policy and objectives at this meeting. All veterans and their families are invited to attend to find out more about the Trust and talk to the Trustees.

In 2015, the Trust will hold its Annual General Meeting at the Whangarei RSA (7-9 Rust Avenue) on Saturday 5 December at 10.30am.. Meetings are held in a different RSA each year.

Trustees will seek to only disclose application details with the applicant's permission, however may be subject to OIA provisions.
