Eligibility and Funding Checklist for Individuals

Use this checklist if you are an individual.  It will help you to find out if you meet the requirements to apply for a grant, and if so, the types of grants you can apply for as an individual.

Eligibility

1. Are you over 18 years of age?

Yes - Go to question 2 (Note: for the Lottery Individuals With Disabilities fund a person may apply on behalf of a person under 18 years old)

No - The Peace and Disarmament Education Trust accepts applications from individuals under 18 years of age. Go to question 2.

Individuals under 18 years old are not eligible for any other grant funding from the Department of Internal Affairs.  The Funding Information Service may be able to assist you in finding a fund that you are eligible for.

2. Are you bankrupt or subject to any form of solvency action?

Yes - Individuals who are bankrupt or subject to any form of solvency action are not eligible for grant funding from the Department of Internal Affairs.

No  - Go to question 3

3. Are you a New Zealand citizen?

Yes - Go to question 4

No - To apply for a grant from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust you must be a New Zealand Citizen.  To apply for a grant from the Pacific Development and Conservation Trust you can be either a New Zealand or South Pacific citizen. Go to question 4

4. Are you a permanent resident, and based in New Zealand?

Yes - Go to question 5

No  - To apply for a grant from the Peace and Disarmament Education Trust you must be a permanent resident, and based in New Zealand. Go to question 5

What type of assistance are you applying for?

5. Are you applying for a grant for a vehicle and/or vehicle modifications, a grant for a mobility scooter, other mobility or communication equipment?

Yes - You may be eligible for a grant from Lottery Individuals with Disabilities

No - Go to question 6

6. Are you applying for a grant for a research or other type of Project?

Yes - You may be eligible for a grant from Lottery Health Research, and/or the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust, and/or the Peace and Disarmament Education Trust, and/or the Pacific Development and Conservation Trust.

No - Go to question 7

7. Are you applying for a grant for a postgraduate scholarship for a Masters degree, or, a Postgraduate scholarship for PhD?

Yes - You may be eligible for a grant from Lottery Health Research and/or the Peace and Disarmament Education Trust.

No - Go to question 8

8. Are you applying for a grant to assist with overseas travel?

Yes - You may be eligible for a grant from the Lottery Ministers Discretionary Fund, and/or the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and/or the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust and/or the Peace and Disarmament Education Trust and/or the Pacific Development and Conservation Trust.

No  - Go to question 9

9. Are you applying for a grant for something else? 

The Funding Information Service may be able to assist you in finding an appropriate funder.
