Disarmament Education UN Implementation Fund

Can I apply for a grant from the Disarmament Education UN Implementation Fund (DEUNIF)?

Use this checklist to see if you can apply for the Disarmament Education UN Implementation Fund.

1. The aim of the Disarmament Education UN Implementation Fund (DEUNIF) is to promote greater public understanding of disarmament matters and the issues presented in the 2002 United Nations Study on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education. Applications must support the objectives of the DEUNIF, and must also have a national and international focus for educational activities. Are you seeking funding for this purpose?

Yes - go to question 2

No - It is unlikely that your project will be considered for funding.  There are other grant opportunities, or the Funding Information Service may be able to assist in finding a fund that is better suited to your organisation’s purpose.

2. The DEUNIF provides funding for administration costs related to educating and promoting greater public understanding of disarmament matters.  The types of applications funded may include administrative costs for non-government organisation (NGO) work programmes; websites; and training or knowledge-gathering opportunities such as attending a conference overseas. Are you seeking funding for this purpose?

Yes - go to question 3

No - It is unlikely that your project will be considered for funding.  There are other grant opportunities, or the Funding Information Service may be able to assist in finding a fund that is better suited to your organisation’s purpose.

3. The DEUNIF funds a very specific type of organisation.  Can your organisation meet the requirements listed below and demonstrate them in your application?

Your organisation must

  • be not-for-profit
  • be based in New Zealand
  • demonstrate the capacity to undertake the project
  • demonstrate that it has a strong governance structure and robust financial management practices, relative to the size and complexity of the project
  • demonstrate that those carrying out the project work have suitable qualifications
  • where relevant, be in a position to network and share knowledge and resources with similar NGOs and government officials to increase the impact of the work
  • have the capacity to communicate with the community on a national level
  • have a proven record of high achievement in the area of disarmament education.

Yes - It is likely that your organisation meets the core requirements to apply to the Disarament Education UN Implementation Fund.  Go to the Disarmament Education UN Implementation Fund for more information.

No - It is unlikely that your project will be considered for funding.  However, in some cases, meeting these requirements may be a case of going back to your organisation’s members and seeing if new structural, governance and reporting systems can be put in place.  You may also be eligible for other types of funding.  The Funding Information Service may be able to assist in finding a fund that is better suited to your organisation.
