Can my organisation apply for Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS) funding?
Use this checklist to help you find out if you can apply for a COGS grant
1. Are you seeking funding on behalf of an organisation?
Yes - go to question 2
No - COGS does not fund individuals. However, there are other grant opportunities that may better suit your purpose. Start by going to the checklist for individuals.
2. Is your organisation’s project, activity, resource or service ‘non-profit’?
Yes - go to question 3
No - The COGS distribution committees consider applications from non-profit organisations that provide community-based social services. The Funding Information Service may be able to assist you in finding a fund that is better suited to your purpose.
3. Is your organisation’s project, activity, resource or service delivered locally?
Yes - go to question 4
No - COGS allocates funding to organisations working within their local communities. The Funding Information Service may be able to assist you in finding a fund that is better suited to your purpose.
4. Does your organisation’s project, activity, resource or service directly benefit the local community?
Yes - go to question 5
No - COGS provides funding to non-profit organisations that provide community-based social services. The Funding Information Service may be able to assist you in finding a fund that is better suited to your purpose.
5. Are you applying for over $10,000?
Yes - To receive grants of over $10,000, organisations must be a legal entity (for example an incorporated society or charitable trust). Go to question 6
No - Organisations that are not a legal entity may apply for a maximum of $10,000. Go to question 6
6. Are you applying for any of the following things?
- Capital items such as land/building alterations, vehicles, furniture and office equipment
- Activities or programmes taking place outside of New Zealand
- Capital items such as land/building alterations, vehicles, furniture and office equipment
- Duplication of existing services within your community, unless there is a good reason for both services to exist
- Political advocacy
- Retrospective funding for activities that have already happened by the application closing date
- Social functions
Yes - COGS will not fund these activities. There are other grant opportunities that may suit your purpose.
No - COGS will fund a contribution to the costs of running community organisations that provide community-based social services or projects. You probably meet the core requirements for funding. Go to the Community Organisation Grants Scheme for more information.
