Community profiles Ko wai te hapori
Soon we will add New Zealand community profiles here which will help to identify and understand the current and future trends in social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of New Zealand communities.
Where the data will come from
The information in the community profiles will come from a number of sources which are publicly available. The main sources of information that will be presented in the community profiles are:
- Census information collected and collated by Statistics New Zealand
- A range of education information and descriptions of trends from the Ministry of Education
- A range of information on crime rates and trends from the New Zealand Police
- Ministry of Health provides a range of information and technical reports on health trends.
- Information about community outcomes
- The Social Report 2010 from the Ministry of Social Development
- Local services mapping reports also from the Ministry of Social Development
- Market labour information from Department of Labour
- Labour Research papers also from Department of Labour
- Information about pacific communities from Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs
- The New Zealand Broadband map
- Information about territorial authorities
Local authorities
Much of the information that will be presented in the community profiles are on the basis of local government (council) boundaries. The two types of local government in New Zealand are:
- Territorial authorities (city and district councils) – the smallest unit of local government; and
- Regional councils – generally larger in size, incorporating a number of territorial authorities.
